Fractional CO2 laser – how does it work?

by | Feb 11, 2019

This photo shows a woman in her late 50s immediately after skin resurfacing with a fractional CO2 laser.⠀

The laser makes millions of tiny holes in the skin while leaving the skin in between the holes intact. This laser helps reduce surface pigmentation and fine lines and can also help improve skin texture and acne scarring.⠀

This type of treatment is only for patients with lighter skin types and has 7-10 days of down time. Patients are often red for a few weeks, but this can be easily covered up with makeup. Many patients opt for a single treatment, but the best results are seen after 2-3 treatments spaced 3-6 months apart. Of course, proper use of sunscreen and sun protection is essential to maintain results.⠀
