Blepharoplasty Before and After Photos
This page provides before and after photographs of actual patients who have had surgery by Dr. Kapadia. Eye only photographs
are shown for most patients so that it is not possible to identify the patient's identity. Photos are only shown with a patient's permission.
Of course, these photos should be considered a reference and not a prediction for how you will look after surgery.
If you search the internet, there are thousands of photos available at surgeon's websites, but most are quite small and it is difficult
to notice much of a difference after surgery. In many other cases, the lighting or the amount of makeup a patient is wearing is totally
different in the two pictures making for an unfair comparison. All the before and after surgery photos shown here were taken under similar
lighting conditions without any manipulation, aside from cropping and changing the overall size. As you look at other surgeon's photos on the
web, you will see how many plastic surgeons present their results in a less than honest manner.
Additional information about different types of droopy eyelid surgery including blepharoplasty,
ptosis repair and brow lift is available in information section
of this website.A unique aspect to the photos here is a discussion of each case narrated by Dr. Kapadia, commenting on what he thinks worked well and
what could be improved further. Use this discussion to gain an understanding of his sense of eyelid aesthetics and how he thinks about patient care.
Patient 1 - Before and after upper eyelid blepharoplasty

Discussion: Upper blepharoplasty surgery can make a dramatic improvement in a patient's appearance. These photographs show a woman in her mid 40s
with a moderate amount of excess upper eyelid skin. The excess skin causes a tired
appearance and weighs down her upper eyelids. After eyelid surgery, her eyes open wider and she has a more awake, youthful appearance. There
is a single well-formed eyelid crease and a larger platform on which to apply eye makeup. Notice that the patient does not look "surgical".
Without seeing her before surgery photos, it would be very difficult to tell that she had undergone eyelid surgery.
Patient 2 - Before and after upper eyelid blepharoplasty

Discussion: Blepharoplasty surgery can make a dramatic difference for men as well as women. These photographs show a male patient in
his early 60s. The excess eyelid skin overhangs his eyelid margin, obscuring his eyelashes and blocking his peripheral vision. The droopy
eyelids give him an angry, tired, melancholic appearance. After surgery he looks alert and refreshed and looks more happy. When there is a
significant loss of peripheral vision, upper eyelid surgery is considered medical (not cosmetic) and is frequently covered by medical
insurance. This patient noted a dramatic improvement in his peripheral vision after surgery in addition to an improved appearance.
Patient 3 - Before and after upper eyelid blepharoplasty

Discussion: These photographs show a woman in her late 50s with excess upper eyelid skin. Like the previous patient, she has a
tired, angry appearance because of excess upper eyelid skin. She is unable to wear eye makeup because of the skin overhanging her eyelid
margin. After surgery, she has a younger, more alert look and a good platform on which to apply eye makeup. She no longer looks
angry. On close inspection, there is a mild amount of asymmetry after surgery, related to asymetry in the height of the eyebrows.
(The left brow droops slightly compared to the right, both before and after surgery). This could be addressed with a small
revision procedure if desired.
Patient 4 - Before and after upper eyelid blepharoplasty

Discussion: These photographs show a woman in her early 60s with a severe amount of excess upper eyelid skin. She looks old and
tired because of droopy upper eyelids. The drooping eyelids block a large portion of her peripheral vision, especially at the
top and sides. After eyelid surgery, she has a younger, more alert look and the loss of peripheral vision is completely resolved.

Discussion: These photographs show the dramatic effects of upper blepharoplasty in a woman in her late 70s. Prior to surgery, there
is an advanced amount of excess upper eyelid skin causing the eyes to look sad and tired. She looks like she is crying. The excess skin also
blocks a significant amount of her peripheral vision. After surgery, she appears younger and more awake and no longer has a melancholic
look from excess upper eyelid skin. This patient allowed use of full face photos. Click the small picture to enlarge the photo. Notice how
eyelid rejuvenation makes a dramatic change in the appearance of her entire face.
